A report celebrating the opening of the first WE College in Narok County in Kenya, and its impacts on the students and the future of the community.
WE has been active in rural Kenya for over 20 years, helping to provide educational opportunities to children, especially young girls. After building both primary and secondary schools in the community, the next step was to build a college in order to continue to meet the needs of the community. Creating sustainable solutions within the communities of Narok County, such as improving access to education, has subsequently allowed these communities to flourish and for these children to be able to attain a better future for themselves and their families.
The construction of WE College is a monumental step as it’s the first of its kind to be built in any of the WE Villages locations, therefore, a report was needed to reflect this. The primary objective of the report was to update donors and stakeholders on the progress and status of the college, so it was important to convey the impacts of their actions within the community. As it was the first time WE has done a report of this nature, a cohesive and flexible design system which aligns with the bold, empowering, and shamelessly optimistic voice of the organization was needed.
Working closely with my creative directors, a design system which included bold colours and typographic treatments was established. Since the report was very copy heavy, breaking up the content to improve readability was necessary, as well as weaving student stories throughout the report in a seamless and impactful way.
The report was well-received by donors, and has been further customized for individual donor reports. As well, the editorial design system that was created has become the standard for similar reports, which has created a more unified editorial look for the organization.
